Description:

Come join me for a painting experience in beautiful Tuscany! We will work on location, learning the fundamentals of watercolor and capturing the many moods of Spannocchia. We will have a grounds tour, where our hosts will introduce us to the facilities as well as the wonderful work that the organic, historic gardeners are dedicated to.

Previous painting experience is not necessary. You can acquire skills as you paint! The lessons will include a daily demonstration, painting lesson: ‘subject of the day’ and an evaluation/critique each afternoon. We can travel into nearby Siena and any other agreed upon local areas for day or ½ day painting explorations. You will complete at least one work each day, and maybe a few!

This is a ‘destination vacation’ where you will soak up the culture, the food, the historic surroundings as you work on your skill development with painting in watercolor!

Coordinator Biography:

4 days painting historic downtown, views of the Ouachita Mountains and Lakes Catherine and Hamilton, beautiful scenery!

Dates: Monday through Thursday, March 29-April 1st

4 days of plein air (outdoor) painting.

Experience the historic downtown, views of the Ouachita Mountains and Lakes Catherine and Hamilton, simply beautiful scenery!

Doris will guide you through the process of setting up for outdoor work. Simplify your materials to carry onto location. 140 pound cold press rag watercolor paper is recommended, but feel free to experiment with other weight papers if you like. You will receive guidance for creating a painting in the midst of ‘so much to see all around’.

This is a process of finding your personal choice of subject and fitting the principals of design and painting together to create a work of art!

Starting at 9 in the morning, Doris will lead you to the selected location for the day…..there will be a demonstration featuring a specific focus for the day’s lesson. Painting time with guidance into technique, color selection, brush strokes, composition, awareness of lighting and shapes……..all go together to help you plan and create your painting….. at least one a day for the four days!

Lunch gets squeezed in there, too!….and later in the afternoon, a critique or evaluation with suggestions of what to do to bring the painting to completion.

Each day builds upon the previous…..You’ll never want it to end! Let it flow!

Quote: Naturalist painter Barry Van Dusen, world renown plein air nature painter, says:

‘….A painting done on location can be likened to a series of shifting conversation between subject, artist and picture.’
